The Linden Endowment of the Arts is an official Linden Community Partnership program whose purpose is to help new artists, cultivate art in SL, and foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the art community.”

Project Name: The Colour Out of Space @ The Blasted Heath, West of Arkham

My goal is to reveal the Colour Out of Space @ the Blasted Heath, West of Arkham – an inspired depiction of H.P. Lovecraft’s 1927 story depicting a “particular region” where “nothing new [had] ever grown over those five acres of grey desolation that sprawled open to the sky like a great spot eaten by acid in the woods and fields” after the meteorite “fell out of the sky and bedded itself in the ground beside the well at the… Gardner place.” One by one the family and livestock all went mad or died, all while “no sane wholesome colours were anywhere to be seen… everywhere those hectic and prismatic variants of some diseased, underlying primary tone without a place among the known tints of earth.”

The perimeter of the region is lush, normal, green vegetation. In the center of it lies the Blasted Heath, an ashen grey circle hosting only diseased-looking, unnatural growths, and ruins of ancient homes. The well where the meteorite landed is the center and feature of the region. It emits a sickeningly luminous glow of colour. The region will be partially flooded which will clue fans of the story into the time frame as existing after the story ended – the story mentions a reservoir that allow the Blasted Heath to “slumber far below blue waters” where “the secrets of the strange days will be one with the deep’s secrets; one with the hidden lore of old ocean, and all the mystery of primal earth.”

On a basic level, I want this build to be a visually interesting place to visit and photograph. But I also aim for something more. First, I’d like for it to be informative enough that even those who are not previous H.P. Lovecraft fans can get into the installation. I’d like to incorporate eerie sounds, movements, lights, and animations to urge visitors to go insane during their stay in the Blasted Heath. I hope to evoke thoughts and feelings about fear, death, and madness. By linking those deep topics with a focus on the “Out of Space” aspect of the installation, I hope to impart that feeling of insignificance when faced with the vastness of the Universe.

Please keep watching this blog for more updates about this art installation!

I’m really happy to announce that I received the region this week… here’s an overhead view of the island. My avatar is the little black mark near center.

Immediately, I set to changing the sky, water, and land texture.

Here’s to those who might have read this far but still aren’t sure what this is about.

Second Life is a virtual social world created by the people who use it, like me. We use an avatar which can look any way we want it to. It’s free to log in (with plenty of freebie avatars, items, etc) but you do have the option to spend, or make, real money.

SL is not a place for those with a short attention span. Since it’s not a normal “game”, there are lots of controls to learn and quirky things to get used to. Then, you have to figure out where to go and what to do. It’s a 3-Dimensional world. In it are games, shopping centers, art installations, galleries, movie theaters, etc. There’s a huge variety of interests represented in SL because it’s created by the “players”.

You can talk with people or communicate by typing. Or you can avoid people altogether. The real point I want to make is that SL is interesting anndd it’s open source annnndddd Oculus Rift works with all of Second Life. I hope by the time Oculus is available in 2016, that this build of mine will still be up!

Museum Trippin

At the Moya Museum

At the Moya Museum

Today I put together an outfit of cute stuff (from bubble and Love Soul) and went to a few museums.

I really enjoyed my time at the Moya Museum, took a lot of screenshots, and even had a chance to visit with Moya himself who tells me he had one of his very first SL exhibitions because of me (I used to run a gallery). I am honored! He’s such a powerhouse of raw talent. The whole island is chock full of art… he paints, he sculpts, he draws, and he creates virtual art spaces including galleries, monuments, and even an Anti-Moya campaign complete with picketers! Some of the spaces like the one shown above is actually very realistic feeling. He says he’s using a spotlight.

Go there and see it all for yourself. Be prepared for a feast of the eyes.

I also went to the Natural History Museum, which was lovely but not big enough! More, more I say!

The realistic effect is really trippy!

Then I went to the International Spaceflight Museum which had an incredible rocket display. Each has a plaque you can click on for information about each rocket. I suspect that the various sizes represented are somewhat accurate and they do give one the impression of how massive they are.

Ok, so now onto my outfit 🙂

11L Search

Hey!

I made some renovations to my Marketplace. Now if you search L$0-L$10 you get more results for demos with a few freebies sprinkled in. To me, that makes it easier to try on some demos yo! So now if you search L$11-L$100, you get tons of really great priced items… lots of silly accessories.

And, just so you know… if you go into my Marketplace with the filter on Relevance, you’ll see some costume male skins fairly easily. I reduced the prices of those.

Updates

Hey 🙂 I updated my Marketplace today with some of my MIA14 items. So far:

12 skintones are included in this fatpack of Ember skins! Check it out.

And the following is a skin applier for Slink’s Visage mesh head…

A skin to match Slink’s Visage Mesh Head… Ember in Healthy Glow skintone. She is pretty, fresh-faced, and has a glowing, bright complexion. With no brows and little makeup, she looks a little edgy and a bit sweet. There are currently no other additions to this particular applier… no makeups, no other skintones. It was originally made for a Lazy Sunday event, Support Lazy Sunday! Check it out.

Here are some more photos using the Ember skin on Slink Visage…

Hi!

aPPLAUSE

Hello! Long time no see!

No special reason for this image choice other than I was going through photos I’ve already used in this blog and thought this one was pretty, odd, and cute… a few of my favorite things 🙂

I’m back in SL. Been logged out/locked out (ooops) for a while. Sorry about it anyone who wanted/needed me.

Life is so funny. Sometimes things just BAM! Change! Well, that’s what happened to me after a move to live up North for the first time ever. About that, let me just tell you I now know for sure that I’m definitely a Southern Girl and I miss the South.

But anyway, I got pulled away from SL b/c of life, you know. We all do from time to time. More and more I realize how many other SL inhabitants go missing for long periods of time then come back. The open arms, the encouragement, the welcome backs are nice and loving! It feels good to be back. And it’s almost Winter now… simply a great time to snuggle up with the warm glow of SL while decked out in warm clothes with a cup of tea beside me.

I’ve always found it difficult to manage all that I want to do in SL and struggled with having enough time. As a friend said to me recently, she feels like time is flowing through her fingers. I know exactly what she means. That is often my experience too. So, this time in… I’m thinkin’ it through. This is what’s on my mind as I enter SL again, drawn for an 8th year into it’s loving embrace, as a content creator:

1) Devote time to exploring SL and staying connected to it and its inhabitants. Remember to have fun. Work a lot but not all the time.
2) Define work hours. Define play hours.
3) Define when and when not available to speak with customers.
4) Focus on quality, fun, and usability of products.
5) Keep it simple.
6) Spend time loading more old products on Marketplace. People still like them! (wow Thank You)
7) Spend time blogging.
8) Spend time Flickring.
9) Use profile feed and any other free method of getting the product and messages out there.
10) Define services, times available for it, and prices.
11) Stay positive.
12) Set boundaries.

*hugs*

Theme Park Rock n Roll

Today an event opened called The Theme Park. This month’s theme is rock n roll! I have made 3 special items which are only available at the event now, and will be in-store (at MIA14) afterwards. The event runs for 3 weeks.

MIA14 Stardust Makeup Poster

Stardust makeup is based on Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie). It has to wrap around the avatar mesh so the lines get a little wobbly (as you can see in the photo) but that’s just the way it is and overall i think it still looks pretty awesome. Demo is available so you can see how it wraps on your avie.

MIA14 Leo Shirts Main Poster

Sexy Leo shirts come in 6 colors and include Lolas and Azz appliers, but may be worn without. Sculpted sleeve cuffs fit nicely over SLink wrists.

MIA14 ONLY MAKEUP POSTER

Only makeup, lashes, and death lock are based on the one and only, Jerry Only from Misfits! ❤ As you can see in the Leo shirt photo, you can wear the death lock with your fave hair (or alone).
